Veneers: A Quick Cosmetic Fix For Your Smile [BLOG]

September 16, 2017

If you were to name any number of problems you have with your smile, chances are there is one cosmetic solution that could solve them all. We’re talking about veneers, the quick cosmetic fix that lasts long after you get them!

Our team at Beck Dental Care have seen lives changed for the better time and again thanks to veneers and how they transform smiles. We aren’t exaggerating when we say that veneers can fix a whole host of dental problems.

Today, we’re pointing out just some of the most common issues we see in our Columbia, TN dental office and how

veneers

can correct them all for a radiant smile that lasts and lasts!

Veneers: An Amazing Cosmetic Solution

Before we let our excitement carry us away, let’s make sure we tell you what veneers are and what the general veneers process involves.

Veneers are for your smile sort of like acrylic nails are for your hands. You go to a salon and get a layer of material placed onto your fingernail and then shaped and polished for a beautifully enhanced look. The same thing happens when you get veneers, only your tooth is covered by a thin porcelain shell bonded in place to your enamel in a way that looks and feels like a natural tooth.

Despite the delicately thin veneer, it’s strength and durability is remarkable! When it’s over, you have a more attractive, flawless smile!

The process begins with a consultation with one of our highly-skilled, experienced professionals. From there, you work as a team to discuss your smile flaws and the best treatment plan to correct them in a way that suits your needs and your budget.

You might go with traditional porcelain veneers, or your unsightly smile problems might be minimal and would be better improved by our no-prep veneers. Whichever is best for your individual needs, you’ll end up with the smile you’ve always wanted.

Veneers: A Quick Fix For Your Smile That Lasts!

Now for the kinds of problems veneers can fix!

Veneers Hide Stains And Discoloration

If your teeth are stained or discolored, you might think that a simple teeth whitening treatment will do the trick. And maybe it will! But there are some stains that are more resistant to that method.

Veneers can hide years worth of stubborn stains that have left your teeth dingy for a dazzling, brighter smile.

Veneers Correct Misshapen Teeth

Not everyone is blessed with perfectly shaped teeth. Thankfully, veneers can be bonded to an awkwardly shaped tooth and then shaped to perfection so your smile looks natural and balanced.

Veneers Cover Cracks In Your Teeth

Even though we put veneers into the cosmetic dentistry category, it can also serve a restorative function as well. It’s one of the many impressive things about dental veneers. A cracked tooth can pose a threat to your oral health, and if left untreated, can grow larger and affect your overall health, too. Veneers can cover unsightly cracks so it not only looks great but remains strong and protected for years to come.

Veneers Fix Chipped Teeth

Sometimes, normal wear and tear or habits like crunching on ice cubes can lead to chips that can taint your entire smile. While we can normally fix something like this with tooth bonding, this isn’t as strong or as lasting a solution as veneers. Like the other flaws we’ve talked about, veneers offer a layer of protection to your chipped tooth so it doesn’t get worse.

Veneers Fill The Gaps In Your Smile

Just because you have gaps between your teeth doesn’t mean you have to spend years wearing braces to pull those teeth tightly together. Veneers can be placed on either side of a gap to close it up and make it look like you spent years undergoing orthodontic treatment!

Get Started With A Consultation Visit!

You can begin with a cosmetic consultation at Beck Dental Care to find out if veneers are the right solution for the problems with your teeth. If you have chips, cracks, gaps, or stains, dental veneers can hide, cover, and protect your smile for a decade or more with proper care and maintenance. Brush Your Way To Better Oral Health [BLOG]

August 11, 2017

You know that brushing your teeth is important. But have you ever given much thought to the kind of toothbrush you use?

Beck Dental Care is here for you! We’re talking about brushing your teeth the right way with the right tools in today’s blog. You might discover you’re already well-equipped. Or, you might have one more thing to add to the shopping list!

Toothbrush Basics

If you abide by the American Dental Association (ADA), you already brush your teeth twice daily. You’re also brushing for at least two minutes each time. Beyond that, there are some ADA recommendations you may not be as familiar with.

Something to keep in mind is that you want to wait about a half hour after you eat to brush your teeth. The idea is that when you eat, the sugars in what you eat and drink feed plaque bacteria in your mouth and create acids.

Once that happens, it begins a process where your tooth enamel is under attack. The acids put your enamel in a softened state, so brushing right away may do more harm than good. Give it about 30 minutes before you brush your teeth.

Another factor regarding time has to do with how long you’ve had your toothbrush. Many times, we just use the free toothbrush we get at the dentist’s office after a checkup. But actually, you should be replacing your toothbrush about every 3-4 months. You don’t want to wait until the bristles have frayed too much, because then it won’t clean your teeth as effectively.

What To Look For In A Toothbrush

Every brush is different. You might be drawn to a particular toothbrush for its color, its grip, or whether it’s powered or not. What matters more than these features is the size of its head and the type of bristles it has.

The ADA recommends you choose one with a smaller head and soft bristles for maximum tooth cleaning ability. You have a lot of ground to cover when cleaning your teeth, and a smaller head size makes getting in the nooks and crannies a bit easier. Softer bristles seem to be most effective in removing plaque and debris.

The average adult would want to look for a head that’s about an inch long by ½ inch wide. With a brush head that’s too big, it won’t be able to clean your back molars as well. However, one that’s too small won’t get the surfaces as well.

The important thing is that you choose one that feels comfortable for you. The grip and head flexibility are both just a matter of comfort and have little to do with the cleaning power of your toothbrush overall.

Some might wonder if an electric toothbrush is better. This is still up for debate. While regular and electric toothbrushes can both be equally effective, there are some cases where a powered one may be more beneficial.

If you have arthritis, for example, or you tend to be more prone to cavities and decay than the average person, an electric toothbrush may offer better dexterity while brushing. A manual is just fine for the average adult who follows proper guidelines and brushing techniques for keeping your teeth and gums healthy.

Another Bit Of Dental Care Advice

Even with the perfect toothbrush and excellent brushing technique, you still need support from your dentist in maintaining good oral health. A professional

dental cleaning and exam

from Beck Dental Care will allow you to stay on top of what’s going on inside your mouth. When it comes to oral health issues like gum disease, you’ll need help from the professionals who have the skill and the tools to catch symptoms early and treat them effectively.

Make sure you schedule an appointment with us at least once about every six months. There could be exceptions to this timeline depending on how prone you are to tooth decay and cavities, and whether you have a history of, or at a higher risk for, gum disease or oral cancer.

Sedation: The Superhero Of Dentistry [BLOG]

June 26, 2017

Summer isn’t just about getting outside and soaking up the fresh air and sunshine. It’s also the season for movie blockbusters. This is a fairly recent phenomenon that’s widely attributed to Will Smith’s wildly successful breakout movies that opened in theatres during the summer months in the early years of his film career.

Movies like Independence Day and Men In Black paved the way for ensuing summer blockbusters throughout the last couple of decades that involve heroic characters fighting off all kinds of villains, both realistic and fantastical.

So summer entertainment is punctuated by a celebrated idea of the victorious superhero. And that’s what inspires today’s blog from our team at Beck Dental Care!

We offer a variety of options in

sedation dentistry

, and we thought it was important to talk about what makes sedation a superhero in dentistry and a powerful, transformative tool for our patients.

The Power To Reclaim Your Health

The purpose of sedation is to help patients feel relaxed during medical procedures, which is a wonderful thing because, as we’re sure you’ll agree, undergoing medical treatment no matter how simple or complicated isn’t the most fun way to spend our time!

Since everyone’s level of fear and anxiety varies from person to person, it’s really helpful when a dentist can offer options to suit your needs for feeling comfortable. That’s why we offer nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation. Depending on your dental needs, you can choose the sedation method that will work best for you.

Why is this important? It’s important because you might be so fearful of going to the dentist that you avoid routine dental cleanings and exams. Good oral hygiene at home is important, but on its own, it’s not enough to help you avoid gum disease, for example. You need a skilled dental professional with the knowledge and equipment to properly diagnose and successfully treat gum disease in all its various stages.

Sedation options have the power to get your oral health back on track because it gives you the courage to get the dental treatment you need to in order to get and stay healthy.

The Power To Boost Your Confidence

Your physical health is important, no doubt about it. But that’s not to suggest that your emotional and psychological health aren’t equally important. Take stress, for example. Some studies suggest that as much as 80%, if not more, of chronic health problems can be traced back to stress. That’s a pretty powerful claim, but if it’s true, we have to then assume your state of mind has a direct connection to your physical well-being.

So then it’s valuable to talk about the impact a low level of self-confidence can have on your life. If you think about all the ways insecurity and self-consciousness affect your actions, it makes perfect sense! When you’re embarrassed by the problems with your smile, you’ll let it keep you from pursuing what you want out of life.

You might avoid opportunities such as going after a promotion, making friends with new and interesting people, or even taking a risk with a romantic relationship. All of these pursuits can add value and meaning to your life, but without the confidence to go after them, they will inevitably remain always out of reach.

Sedation dentistry helps you not only have a healthy mouth, but it can help you take that next step in getting the cosmetic dental work you might need to transform your smile. If you have the courage to undergo cosmetic procedures, imagine how beautiful your smile could be and what that might do to boost your self-confidence!

Smile Makeover: Change Your Smile, Change Your Life [BLOG]

April 16, 2017

When you think of a makeover, you probably imagine all the many ways you can change your overall look. A new diet and exercise regimen has transformed your body, so naturally, you get a new wardrobe. Maybe you trade in your long, brown locks for a blonde, stylish new bob. You treated yourself to a facial and finally took the time to get a professional makeup application at the local department store cosmetic counter.

But one of the things you probably didn’t picture anywhere in that imaginary makeover was changing your smile. And why not?

Too often, we tend to just accept the things we don’t like about our teeth. You might think you’re too old for traditional braces, so you can forget about having the straight teeth you always wanted. Or the years of drinking coffee and red wine have left your teeth a brownish yellow instead of sparkly white. But those OTC whitening strips don’t really work, so you live with the stains. And then there’s the way your top teeth are all slightly out of sync in terms of length and shape. But it’s not like you can just file them all down to give them a uniformed look, so what other choice do you have but to just accept it?

This way of thinking may sound pretty familiar, but your Columbia, TN dental office wants you to know that you don’t have to just accept it! If there are things you don’t like about your smile, then why not change it with a

smile makeover

at Beck Dental Care?

Today’s blog is all about how you

can

, in fact, makeover your smile and how it can change your life!

Improving Your Smile Gives You Confidence

We all understand what it feels like to be embarrassed about our appearance. You’ve pulled up to your office building to start a long work day only to discover you have a coffee stain all down the front of your blouse. Or you can remember those first few years of marriage when you put on what you affectionately refer to as “happy weight.” You didn’t want to feel self-conscious anymore about those extra pounds, so you started eating a healthier diet and spent several evenings a week in the gym, and soon enough, that weight came off.

Face it, we’ve all been there. But what we don’t all share is the same duration of these embarrassments. For some people, you suffer for just a few months or maybe just a day, and whatever you didn’t like about your appearance was improved relatively quickly. There was some kind of light at the end of that dark, awful tunnel of paranoia and insecurity.

But for others, things they don’t like about their appearance aren’t always so easily corrected. The problems are not so temporary. Things that changes in diet, physical activity, or time just won’t improve.

So when you’re embarrassed about flaws and imperfections in your smile, you can spend years feeling insecure. Thinking you can’t do anything about it only makes you feel worse. But with a smile makeover, you can have the smile you’ve always wanted and the confidence you’ve been missing. Just think about how much your quality of life would improve if you didn’t have to carry around that heavy burden of insecurity all the time! A smile makeover can help lift that burden off your shoulders once and for all.

Making Over Your Smile Can Benefit You Professionally And Personally

An unfortunate truth about appearances is… they matter. We’re not supposed to judge people based on how they look, but we do. And in some respects, it makes sense. In a professional setting, for example, it’s hard to take someone’s ideas seriously if they don’t seem to take themselves seriously. If you look like a mess while trying to pitch an idea to your colleagues, subordinates, or supervisors, you’re not going to effectively make your case. Why? They’re going to be too distracted by your disheveled appearance to be able to really hear your ideas.

But when you look like you take pride in how you present yourself to others, people will assume you take equal pride in your work. That’s how a confident, attractive smile can help you professionally by adding to your level of credibility.

On a more personal level, a beautiful smile is one of the things we notice first when we meet new people. Confidence is an attractive quality, and a smile makeover can eliminate the lack of confidence that’s been holding you back romantically.

Is your smile holding you back from living the life you deserve? Consider a smile makeover from Beck Dental Care in Columbia, TN. Call us today at (931) 388-8452 or fill out our

online form

to schedule a consultation.
