Prevent Dental Problems One Day At A Time [BLOG]

July 11, 2017

Beck Dental Care wants every patient who comes into our Columbia, TN office to achieve a healthy smile. Dr. Beck and the rest of our team do all we can to make sure you have high quality dental care, plenty of treatment options, and the knowledge to make the best decision for your healthy teeth and gums.

But we aren’t the only ones who can help you achieve your best oral health. You are an integral part in that endeavor. It’s a responsibility we share together, and our team is happy to help you in every way we can.

One of the ways we can do that is with today’s blog post! We’re talking about how you and our Columbia dental team can work together to help

prevent dental problems

before they become serious oral and overall health issues.

Let’s look at how you can prevent problems with your smile every single day and how we are here to help you do it!

Prevention Starts At Home

Everyone can and should be in control of their oral and overall health. Good oral hygiene is one of the ways you’re in the driver’s seat of your smile every single day. The ADA, American Dental Association, suggests a hygiene regimen to ensure a healthy mouth.

First, you should brush your teeth twice a day with an ADA approved, soft-bristle toothbrush. They also suggest brushing your teeth for two minutes each time. How would you time yourself in a way that was fast and easy? Maybe it’s your smartphone timer? Maybe it’s by playing your favorite song while you brush?

Second, the ADA tells us to floss once daily. Studies have shown, shockingly, that only one in five people claim to floss each day. That’s pretty surprising considering how important it is to your healthy teeth and gums.

Flossing does what a toothbrush can’t. It dislodges food particles from smaller, hard to reach places in your mouth. You can do this in the morning, at night, before you brush, or even after you brush. The point is that you do it at least once.

An added habit that will help prevent dental problems caused by harmful bacteria and plaque buildup is to carry plastic flossers so you can floss on the go after a meal.

These are simple, but incredibly valuable ways to prevent problems with your teeth and your oral health overall.

Prevention Also Happens In The Dentist’s Chair

Beck Dental Care is here for you! That’s why we offer a variety of preventive dental treatments you can take advantage of on your next visit.

And speaking of your next visit, we should start by reminding you about how essential it is for you to make sure to schedule a dental cleaning and exam at least twice a year. Cleaning your mouth of plaque, tartar buildup, and harmful bacteria requires the professional eye and the professional tools we have here at Beck Dental Care.

You don’t always show signs of gum disease when you have it. That’s why it’s important to let us catch it, and other oral health issues, early enough so we can treat them before they become more serious.

But we go further than that in our Columbia dental office! You can take advantage of dental services that try to help you achieve good oral health from every angle, such as

-Dental Sealants

-Fluoride Treatments

-Athletic Mouthguards

-Mouthguards For Teeth Grinding

When you come in for your routine dental checkup, be sure to ask about our preventive treatments. Dr. Beck and our team can help you figure out what might be right for you and for your lifestyle. If you’re involved in competitive or recreational sports, for example, and athletic mouthguard are a great way to prevent injuries to your teeth, lips, and the soft tissue of your gums and cheeks.
